istorical love story hidden in a historical tunnel ... Love story at Mount Lavinia Hotel ...

Mount Lavinia or Mount Lavinia Hotel is a popular hotel not only in Sri Lanka but also among many tourists around the world.  There are many secrets behind this amazing building built by white imperialists.

Its tunnel is very secretive.  If you travel by sea train from Colombo to Galle, you will pass through that tunnel near the Mount Lavinia Hotel.  The tunnel, as well as the building, was built in 1805 by Thomas Maitland, the second English governor of Ceylon.

After his arrival in Sri Lanka, a high level party was organized for him.  There, several young women of the Rodi caste have performed in front of him.  Meanwhile, he is interested in one beautiful girl he once was.  That focus ends when the two of them fall in love.

Her name is Lovina, an unmarried teenager.  It is said that her father was an attractive young woman because of the Portuguese.  The governor is now forty-seven unmarried.  A governor of an empire without sunshine realizes that loving someone of a lower caste is a problem in the future.

Due to this he has decided to build his official residence by the sea in Mount Lavinia today.  It is being built above the village of Roddy.  Meanwhile, he is working to build a tunnel from the official residence to the village of Roddy.  Years later she searches for her boyfriend through this secret tunnel.

Because of this unconditional love, Lovina is able to give so much to her people.  Until then, Roddy did not allow women to cover their bodies.  They were also not allowed to build two-story thatched huts.  Lovina manages to remove all these bans from the governor.

But this love story will be kept a secret from the world for a very short time.  British officials extend the role of governor to King George III of England.  As a result, he was removed from office and ordered to leave the country immediately.

When he says goodbye to Lovina and sails away, he promises her that he will come to pick her up one day.  He became governor of Malta and died unmarried at the age of 64. Lovina is said to have committed suicide in grief over the loss of her beloved.

Once the governor's official residence, it was also used as a military hospital during World War II.  It was later converted into the Mount Lavinia Hotel.  At the request of Governor Thomas Maitland, the area was renamed Mount Lavinia in memory of his girlfriend.

A symbol of love tax, the tunnel then closes.  Today you can see part of the location of the wine shop at the Grind Hotel in Mount Lavinia.  Today you can see the hotel kitchen at that location.  It is believed that the other end of the tunnel is on the grounds of the Mount Lavinia Buddhist Girls' College.

Although the symbol of love tax closes this historic tunnel forever, Thomas Maitland Lovina love is famous all over the world.  Even today, people who love that historical and historical love still visit the Mount Lavinia Grand Hotel to see its remains.
