 Just hearing the name Mihintale reminds the Buddhist people of the arrival of Mahinda Thera and the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka ...

 It is more accurate to say that the cultural garden established in Mihintale after the arrival of Arahant Mahinda Rajapaksa later spread to the whole of Ceylon.

 Mihintale has been known by various names in the past ...

    

 * Chethiyagiriya,

 * Sagirivehera,

 * Missaka Pawwa, and

 * Chethiya Pabbata

 When you say Mihintale, does everyone remember the invitation stone at once?

        It is believed that the Venerable Mahinda Thera first addressed King Devanampiyatissa by the name 'Tissa' from this rock.

 The view from the top of the invitation is breathtaking.  Seen from above, the Mihintale Stupa glows white.  The fatigue of climbing a mountain goes away when you go to the top of that rock 

        To you who are going to Mihintale sacred area ....

 You can see the Ambasthala Vaithya, the Aradhana Gala, the Mihintale Maha Seya, the seated Buddha statue and the Kantaka Vaithya ....

 Don't forget to worship all of these ...

 Mihintale Stupa is about 153 feet high ...

 This great stupa was declared as a protected monument by the archaeologists in the year 1941 ...

         Also, a part of the ashes of Arahant Mahinda is treasured here.

 There is evidence that most of the constructions done in Mihintale were started by King Devanampiyatissa ...
